MEETING IN STRING THEORY

The Region

Nafplion is a historic small town located by the sea in the north-east part of Peloponnese about 120 km away from Athens. A google map of the region can be found here typing "peloponnese"

For a virtual tour of the city and its various monuments click here whereas other general information about the city and its history can be found here.

Nafplion served as the first capital of the Greek independent state after the Ottoman rule until king Otto decided to move the capital to Athens in 1834. Near Naflion there are some very famous ancient sites worth visiting including Tiryns, Mycenae, Argos and Epidaurus (and the famous theater) as well as several Venetian castles built around the town during the middle ages.
